Cross stitch 101 – Fast start for cross stitch

Cross stitch is usually the first craft project most people do in their crafting career. Its a fun easy way to make something that is decorative. Its strangely meditative and totally portable if the project isn’t too big. Its one of the few hobbies you can do on a flight – that is if you have a thread cutter. Scissors are not allowed on flights.

This very short 1 lesson class will introduce the essentials of cross stitch so that you can do this like an expert! I’ve spied a number of projects being done with knots at the back of the work and where the design is not aligned at correctly while at Spotlight. It makes be sad that a  lot of work has gone into something that can be done better.

Topics:

  • Why use an embroidery hoop?
  • Keep the edges from fraying
  • No knot start and end
  • threadcount
  • How to centre your design
  • How to keep track of the pattern
  • How to do multiple colors
  • How to do the outline
  • How to oranise fleece
